Merchant of Tennis, celebrating over 30 years in business, was founded by tennis players and professionals with the goal of serving tennis enthusiasts everywhere. Incorporated in 1992 with a background in pro shop retailing, the company was built on the idea of bringing personal, professional tennis service to a broader market.
The flagship store opened in April 1992 on Bayview Avenue in Toronto, followed by a second location in Oakville, Ontario in 1998. In 2006, Merchant of Tennis expanded its reach by launching www.merchantoftennis.com, serving online customers across North America.
From 2008 to 2014, Merchant of Tennis was the Official Retailer and Stringer of the Rogers Cup in Toronto, an ATP and WTA premier tournament featuring the world’s top-ranked players. Beginning in 2024, they became the Official Retailer and Stringer at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers in Toronto.
The Merchant of Tennis professional stringing team has delivered exceptional service to players such as Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, and many tour professionals competing in Grand Slams and the Canadian Open in Toronto. That same level of expertise is offered daily to customers through its retail locations.
The company remains deeply committed to giving back to the tennis community. With a strong focus on grassroots tennis, Merchant of Tennis is the preferred retailer of the Ontario Tennis Association and has sponsored Team Ontario for over a decade. The company also proudly supports the Toronto Tennis Junior League, the Intercounty Tennis Association, and maintains an ongoing partnership with the Doug Philpott Inner City Children’s Tennis Fund, which provides free tennis camps to more than 5,000 children each year.
Merchant of Tennis takes pride in delivering an accessible retail experience and looks forward to helping every customer enjoy their tennis shopping journey.
