ICTA Update as of June and Cancellation of +55 League

To All ICTA Club Reps, Presidents, Division Chairs and Captains:

We hope that you and your families remain healthy and safe during these uncertain times.

As tennis clubs in Ontario slowly begin to open, the guidelines and restrictions that are being put in place by municipal and health authorities only allow for singles play, at least for now. At most clubs guests are not allowed to play, limiting the court times to members only. We are hopeful that at some point doubles play will be allowed again and guests will be permitted to play at all clubs.

We understand that it is helpful for many clubs to know the status of our Leagues for the 2020 season.  After consultation with our League Directors, we would need certainty from public health authorities that we could play doubles by the end of June for the Ladies’ League and the first part of July for the Mixed League, in order to effectively plan and implement a season for 2020.

COVID-19 affects people of all ages, but our senior players are most at risk.  With this in mind, we are announcing the cancellation of the 2020 ICTA +55 League.  We would like to acknowledge League Director Marina Mihailovich and her Division Chairs for all of their work in reaching this hard decision.

Please note that in 2021 the ICTA will happily welcome back those clubs that decide not to participate in our Leagues this year.

In the meantime, we will keep planning in hope to put in place at least a partial season for the other two leagues. Stay tuned and stay safe!
